Hey everybody, in this video I’m going to talk to you about how to finish concrete by hand, specifically how to finish concrete with a hand trowel, a mag float and the concrete skids or the concrete knee boards here. I’ll have a link down in the description for each one of these tools if you want to check them out, but this is why we finish concrete by hand sometimes versus using a pilot Trowel. Sometimes you know the climate’s pretty cold late in the Fall and sometimes the concrete just doesn’t dry very fast. So we need to get a good smooth finish on it before the sun goes down. It’s much faster to finish concrete by hand than it is to put a power towel on it. That’s what we’re doing in this case and these concrete skids make finishing concrete pretty easy by hand.
All you do is you just kneel down in them and they got knee pads in them so it doesn’t hurt your knees. And you just have a hand trowel on one hand, a mag float in the other, and you use one hand to push off with to balance yourself. In the other hand just to wipe the Concrete smooth. Our process is once the Concrete sets up enough so we can we can walk on it. We’re only sinking in maybe like a quarter of an inch. We’ll put these skids down these Concrete skids get in them. Then we’ll use the mag float first and we’ll mag float the entire floor and then we’ll usually let that dry for maybe 30 or 40 minutes depending on the temperature. We’ll get back on with these and go over it with the hand trowel just like we are now. And as you see we take about a maybe like a five foot wide trough with this hand trowel and we just work our way backwards. And we’ll do that back and forth on the floor in a zigzag pattern until we have it all troweled and then once we have it all trialled. We’ll get off it again, let it dry for another 30 40 minutes and then we’ll go over it again. We’ll do that three or four times and then it’ll be done.
